The ARTC Safeworking level 1 course is designed to cover managing track vehicle movements, the rules and procedures for using track vehicle movement instructions, rail vehicle detection systems and special working.

  • TLIF3058  – Apply safeworking rules and regulations to rail functions
  • TLIW3026  – Operate stand alone signalling points control equipment
  • TLIC0016  – Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs

Activities prescribed for a Handsignaller

Level 2

  • Operate groundframes
  • Operate signalling equipment at unattended locations
  • Operate on authority of a Special Proceed Authority (SPA)
  • Transfer track vehicles as a train

Entry Requirements

The pre-requisites for this course are as follows:

  • ARTC NSW Handsignaller Level 1 and 2
  • CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

__________________

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Assessment

__________________

  • Theory assessment (in class)
  • On job workbook – this needs to be signed off by an already qualified Protection Officer level 1-4. You must be able to provide evidence from the person (must hold at least the minimum qualification of those being signed off) who has signed
  • Practical assessment – conducted one on one with a CERT assessor (at completion of on job workbook)

Delivery Method

  • Face to face workshop (four days) and then on the job training at participants workplace

Medical Requirement

Category 1 Rail Medical (CAT 1)

This is the highest level of rail medical available and is for rail workers or contractors undertaking a safety critical role requiring a high level of attentiveness to their tasks and where sudden incapacity may result in a serious incident affecting the public or the rail network.
