NSW ARTC Track Examiner & Certifier
This course involves the skills and knowledge required to check and repair track geometry, examine track and right of way infrastructure in accordance with safeworking and regulatory requirements and workplace procedures. It includes determining the job requirements, restoring track geometry, checking track compliance after work and completing required documentation. This course also involves preparing for examination, examining track and right of way, analysing examination results and reporting findings, patrolling the track and right of way infrastructure, and recording identified defects.

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)

  • TLIB3094 Check and repair track geometry
  • TLIB3099 Examine track infrastructure
  • TLIB3100 Visually inspect track infrastructure
Certificate of Achievement

  • ARTC Track Certifier and Examiner
Note: The above certificates are issued after ALL assessments have been completed (Refer to Assessment Methods to view all assessments within this course)

Entry Requirements

The pre-requisites for this course are as follows:

  • Category 3 Rail Medical
  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • TLIB1028 Maintain and use hand tools (superseded as at 28/01/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIB0012 required) OR
  • TLIB0012 Maintain and use hand tools
  • TLID1001 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods (superseded as at 21/11/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIF0025 required) OR
  • TLID0025 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
  • TLIF1001 Follow work health and safety procedures (superseded as at 21/11/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIF0025 required) OR
  • TLIF0025 Follow work health and safety procedures
  • TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
  • TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor (superseded as at 21/11/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIF0020 required) OR

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards and necessary instructions

Assessment

  • Theory assessment
  • On-the-job workbook
  • Practical assessment (conducted once on-the-job workbook completed succesfully)

Delivery Method

__________________

  • This course is facilitated via face to face workshop (five days) and work-based learning

Recertification

__________________

The Certificate of Achievement – Track Examiner and Certifier is valid for two (2) years from date of  issue.

Once the two (2) years are up, students will need to return to CERT and complete a recertification.

Medical Requirement

Category 3 Rail Medical (CAT 3)

A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
