NSW ARTC Track Vehicle Operator
The Track Vehicle Operator training course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to fixed signals, follow safeworking rules and operating procedures required by track vehicle operators to operate track vehicles. This course covers the rules and procedures for working with fixed signals, work on track authorities and operating track vehicles using the normal method of safeworking in use. This course is intended for persons who want a career in the rail industry performing the duties as a Track Vehicle Operator on the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) NSW Network.

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)

  • TLIC0025 Pilot rail traffic within work on track authority limits
  • TLIC0083 Access rail track to travel track vehicle under a proceed authority
  • TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite
  • TLIC0016 Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs

ARTC Certificate of Achievement

  • ARTC Track Vehicle Operator
Note: The above are issued after ALL assessments have been completed

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Activities as prescribed for Protection Officer Level 1
  • Operate a track vehicle outside the limits of a protected worksite
  • Obtain a Track Occupancy Authority (TOA) for the purpose of travelling a track vehicle.

Entry Requirements

The pre-requisites for this course are as follows:

  • ARTC NSW Protection Officer Level 1
  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor    OR
  • TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor (superseded as at 28/01/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIF0020 Required )
  • Category 1 Rail Medical

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Assessment

__________________

  • Theory assessment (in class)
  • On job workbook – this needs to be signed off by an already qualified Protection Officer Level 1-4. You must be able to provide evidence from the person (must hold at least the minimum qualification of those being signed off) who has signed
  • Practical assessment – conducted one on one with a CERT assessor (at completion of on job workbook)

Delivery Method

  • Face to face workshop (four days) and then on the job training at participants workplace

Recertification

__________________

The ARTC Certificate of Achievement is valid for two (2) years from date of issue.

Once the two (2) years has passed, students will need to return to CERT and complete a recertification.

Medical Requirement

Category 1 Rail Medical (CAT 1)

This is the highest level of rail medical available and is for rail workers or contractors undertaking a safety critical role requiring a high level of attentiveness to their tasks and where sudden incapacity may result in a serious incident affecting the public or the rail network.
