TFNSW Accessing the Rail Corridor Induction (SX52) – Wagga Wagga

Gain the skills required to Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC, TFNSW SX52) on the Transport for NSW Rail Network in this course previoulsy known as 'Rail Industry Safety Induction' or RISI Training.

This course is a mandatory requirement for anyone performing work in the Transport for NSW rail corridor (including between Sydney, Nowra, Lithgow and Broadmeadow) and is recognised by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) and UGL Regional Links (UGLRL).

During SX52 training, you will learn the key hazards of operating in the rail environment and gives learners the skills and knowledge to safely enter and navigate around the rail corridor.

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)

  • TLIF0020 – Safely Access the Rail Corridor


Pathway

  • Participants may wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the rail industry and enrol within the TLI27121 –  Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification.

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Demonstrate how to safely access and work in the rail corridor
  • Recognise the danger zone
  • Identify and access a safe place
  • Identify the direction of approaching traffic
  • Maintain situational awareness to identify potential risks
  • Identify and explain the use of communication tools when working in the rail environment
  • Identify electrical safety hazards, risks and controls used in the rail corridor
  • Identify and report unsafe situations within the rail environment

Entry Requirements

There are no course pre-requisites.

AGE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants under 17 years of age are required to obtain a Rail Safety Worker Authorisation from Transport for NSW prior to enrolling into the TfNSW SX52 Accessing the Rail Corridor Induction.

Please Note: If applicant is under 17, eligibility for a TfNSW Rail Safety Worker Authorisation must be obtained in writing from TfNSW Organisational Development (OD) before the candidate can participate in training. This can take up to 10 working days on receipt of the applicable form.

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Assessment

  • Theory assessment (closed book, conducted in-class)
  • Practical demonstration – conducted on one one in a non-live track environment

Medical Requirement

Category 3 Rail Medical (CAT 3)

A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.

In order to obtain your Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW Card) upon the completion of this course, you will also need to undertake a minimum of a Category 3 Rail Medical.
