ARTC Protection Officer Level 1

This course is intended for persons who want a career in the rail industry performing the duties as a Protection Officer Level 1 on the South Australian ARTC Rail Network. The course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to follow the correct procedures to perform Lookout Working in line with the SA rail network Code of Practice. Learn how to understand and impliment Worksite Protection Plans (WPP), risk management processes, and emergency condition procedures.

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)
 
  • TLIF2080 – Safely access the rail corridor
ARTC Certificate of Achievement
 
  • NTSA ARTC National Track Safety Awareness (This course aligns to specific requirements of ARTC Network rules and procedures)
Pathway

Participants may wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the rail industry and enrol within the TLI21315 –  Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification.

 

Topics

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Assess all risks associated with work within and/or entry to the rail corridor
  • Identify level of protection required
  • Use the Lookout Working and Train Running Information (TRI) methods of worksite protection
  • Act as a lookout

Entry Requirements

The pre-requisites for this course are as follows:

  • TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:
 
  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

  • Theory assessment (open book)
  • Practical assessment

Delivery Method

  • This course is facilitated via a face to face workshop

Recertification

__________________

The ARTC National Track Safety Awareness (NTSA) Certificate of Achievement is valid for two (2) years from date of training.

Once the two (2) years have passed, students are required to return to CERT and re-sit the ARTC NTSA course.

Medical Requirement

Category 1 Rail Medical (CAT 1)

This is the highest level of rail medical available and is for rail workers or contractors undertaking a safety critical role requiring a high level of attentiveness to their tasks and where sudden incapacity may result in a serious incident affecting the public or the rail network.
