ARTC Track Awareness

This course is an induction training package designed for people wanting to work on the SA ARTC Rail Network. The ARTC National Track Safety Awareness (SARC) course outlines the key hazards of operating in the rail environment and, gives learners the skills and knowledge to safely enter and navigate around the rail corridor. This course is suitable for individuals with no prior rail industry experience.

Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)
 
  • TLIF2080 – Safely access the rail corridor
ARTC Certificate of Achievement
 
  • NTSA ARTC National Track Safety Awareness (This course aligns to specific requirements of ARTC Network rules and procedures)
Pathway

Participants may wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the rail industry and enrol within the TLI21315 –  Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification.

 

Topics

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Demonstrate how to safely access and work in the rail corridor
  • Recognise the danger zone
  • Identify and access a safe place
  • Identify the direction of approaching traffic
  • Apply minimum sighting distances
  • Maintain situational awareness to identify potential risks
  • Identify and explain the use of communication tools when working in the rail environment
  • Identify electrical safety hazards, risks and controls used in the rail corridor
  • Identify and report unsafe situations within the rail environment
    Undertake work activities under local track protection rules in accordance with safeworking rules, procedures and regulatory requirements

Entry Requirements

There are no course pre-requisites however, to participate in the ARTC Track Safety Awareness course you need to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:
 
  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Assessment

  • Theory assessment (open book)
  • Practical assessment

Delivery Method

  • This course is facilitated via a face to face workshop

Recertification

__________________

The ARTC National Track Safety Awareness (NTSA) Certificate of Achievement is valid for two (2) years from date of training.

Once the two (2) years have passed, students are required to return to CERT and re-sit the ARTC NTSA course.

Medical Requirement

In order to obtain your Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW Card) upon the completion of this course, you will also need to undertake a minimum of a Category 3 Rail Medical.
