The Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure Core Units are the fundamental building blocks required for the National Track and Civil Rail Labourer job role. This course is ideal for persons wanting to undertake operations within the rail infrastructure environment. Core training followed, by Strema, and coupled with 3 electives are required for the full certificate II In Rail Infrastructure. There is typically a high degree of employment available following this course.

Entry Requirements

The pre-requisites for this course are as follows:

  • TLIF 0020 superseded TLIF 2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor

To access the network, it is a requirement participants also complete CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card).

NOTE: Entry to this course is contingent on participants wearing appropriate PPE. For more information on PPE requirements, contact CERT Victoria.

  • Orange hi-vis

  • Gloves.

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies and procedures
  • Communicate identified hazards

Medical Requirement

Category 3 Rail Medical (CAT 3)

A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
