TLI27121 – Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure

The Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure program is a general qualification for personnel engaged in basic operations within the rail infrastructure environment who undertake a range of tasks involving known routines and procedures.
This program will provide students with the skills to fill roles such as a track worker, track maintainer or track installer.
This program is for individuals working in the danger zone on or about the track to implement track maintenance; conduct mandatory systematic inspections; examination; condition monitoring and functional checks on the rail infrastructure; and to take appropriate action to ensure rail infrastructure is in a safe operational condition. This can include recording and reporting of defective infrastructure to maintain a valid defect recording system.

What should I Expect During Training

This course will run full-time for 6-weeks, excluding weekends, at our training facility in Chullora.

Training is delivered face-to-face by one of our highly experienced, supportive rail trainers.

This course includes both theory and practical learning, ensuring you can apply your newfound knowledge to real-world scenarios.

You will demonstrate your knowledge through an in-person practical assessment.

Government Subsidised Training* for Eligible Students!

Get your rail career started quickly, easily and affordably thanks to NSW Government Smart and Skilled funding. Eligible students can access training and fee subsidies for this course. The student contribution for this course is approximately $1010.00 per student. This fee may vary depending on additional subsidies for eligible students and applicable concessions. Speak to one of our experienced administration team members to assess your entitlements.

Please be aware students may incur additional costs for any medicals, police checks or Rail Industry Worker card requirements to enter the rail industry which will need to be paid by the student.

Entry Considerations

The role of a rail infrastructure worker requires students to have a Category 3 Rail Medical and CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. The rail medical and construction induction course are not required to attend training and can be undertaken at any time prior to beginning work in the rail industry.

You must also have the right to live and work in Australia.

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
  • Understand basic spoken English
  • Communicate basic safety-related information

Medical Requirement

CAT 3 Medical

A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
