Road-Rail Plant Operator job role will provide you with the skills and knowledge to operate a road/rail vehicle on-track in accordance with the network ownerโ€™s policies and procedures.

A road-rail vehicle fitted with retractable rail guidance wheels (Hi-Rail Vehicle) may include:

  • excavator
  • four-wheel drives
  • light-medium rigid vehicles
  • tractors

Upon successful completion of all assessments, a Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised) will be issued for the following units:
  • TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite
  • TLIC3045 Operate road/rail vehicle

Entry Requirements

Participants completing this course must hold the following AQF competency units:

  • CPCWHS1001 โ€“ Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry OR
  • TLIF0020 – Safely access the rail corridor

Participants will also require a

  • Compliant Certificate of Fitness (Category 1 Rail Medical)

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
  • Understand basic spoken English
  • Communicate basic safety-related information

Assessment

  • Theory Assessment (closed book, conducted in-class)
  • Practical Assessment conducted on a Road-Rail Vehicle which is supplied by the client

Delivery Method

  • This course is facilitated face to face and includes both a Theory and Practical Assessment
  • The Practical Assessment must be inclusive of practical assessment on a Road-Rail Vehicle. Participants can be assessed on CERT premises in full if the appropriate vehicle is provided on the day

Medical Requirement

CAT 1 Medical

This is the highest level of rail medical available and is for rail workers or contractors undertaking a safety critical role requiring a high level of attentiveness to their tasks and where sudden incapacity may result in a serious incident affecting the public or the rail network.
