Operate firefighting equipment



This course has been designed for workers who are required to operate firefighting equipment. Work is undertaken in accordance with relevant codes of practice, manufacturers instructions and workplace emergency procedures as part of work activities within the transport and logistics industry.  This course includes checking, identifying, selecting and using the appropriate firefighting equipment.



Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive:

Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)

  • Checking firefighting equipment
  • Using firefighting equipments
  • Storing firefighting equipment
  • Workplace procedures and manufacturer's instructions
  • Communicating effectively with others when fighting fires
  • Different classes of fire

Entry Requirements

Including Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N):

Participants will undergo an LL&N assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LL&N levels to be able to:
  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand simple instructions
  • Communicate identified hazards and instructions whilst fighting fires
  • Read and understand manufacturer’s instructions for checking firefighting equipment

The following assessment methods are used within this course:

  • Theory assessment
  • Practical demonstration
