Rail Labourer NSW Course
This program aims to provide foundational knowledge and skills necessary for performing a variety of tasks in rail infrastructure maintenance and operations. The program will provide the required qualifications to fill the role as a Rail Labourer.
This role is for individuals working in the danger zone on or about the track performing general labouring duties, working under the supervision of specific Track Worker Roles like Track Maintainers.

- Applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
- Applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures
- Communicating and working effectively with others
- Completing relevant documentation
- Using at least three different types of hand tools and related materials or equipment safely
- Reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs
- Interpreting manual handling risks
- Operating and adapting to differences in loads and products, goods or materials in accordance with workplace procedures
- Selecting and using required personal protective equipment (PPE) conforming to industry and WHS/OHS standards
- Working collaboratively with others when manually lifting and handling products, goods or materials
- Modifying communication activities depending on operational contingencies and environments
- Operating electronic communications equipment to required protocol
- Reporting and/or rectifying identified problems in communication promptly, in accordance with workplace procedures
- Responding appropriately to cultural preferences in the workplace, including modes of behaviour and interactions with others
- Reporting identified problems, faults or malfunctions in accordance with relevant legislation and workplace policies and procedures
- Identifying job hazards and taking required actions to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:
- Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
- Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
- Understand basic spoken English
- Communicate basic safety-related information

Medical Requirement
Category 3 Rail Medical (CAT 3)
A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
