TfNSW Accessing the Rail Corridor Induction

Gain the skills required to Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC, TFNSW SX52) on the Transport for NSW Rail Network. This course is previously known as Rail Industry Safety Induction or RISI Training.
Accessing the Rail Corridor Induction course is a mandatory requirement for anyone performing work in the Transport for NSW rail corridor (including between Sydney, Nowra, Lithgow and Broadmeadow) and is recognised by UGL Regional Links (UGLRL).Â
During this training, you will learn the key hazards of operating in the rail environment and gives learners the skills and knowledge to safely enter and navigate around the rail corridor.
Please Note: If applicant is under 17, eligibility for a TfNSW Rail Safety Worker Authorisation must be obtained in writing from TfNSW Organisational Development (OD) before the candidate can participate in training. This can take up to 10 working days on receipt of the applicable form.

Pathway
- Participants may wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the rail industry and enrol within the TLI27121 – Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification.
Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card

CERT do not issue Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Cards.Please go to Service Request – Rail Industry Worker (riw.net.au) to apply for your Rail Industry Worker Card.There is an additional fee payable to RIW for the issuance of your card.

Entry Requirements

Participants completing this course must hold the following AQF competency units:
- CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry OR
- CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (superseded as at 07/04/2022 – Credit transfer to CPCWHS1001 required)
Participants will also require a
- Compliant Certificate of Fitness (Category 3 Rail Medical), including Drug & alcohol
Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:
- Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
- Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
- Understand basic spoken English
- Communicate basic safety-related information

Medical Requirement
CAT 3 Medical
A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
