Gain the skills required to Safely Access the Rail Corridor on the Queensland Rail Network.

The Safely Access the Rail Corridor course is designed to give learners the skills and knowledge required to safely enter and navigate around the rail corridor and danger zone with the permission of the access provider, in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. It includes following the policies, procedures and protocols of the access provider for situational awareness and rail safety, and to operate under local track protection rules in accordance with safe working and regulatory requirements and workplace procedures, including accessing and interpreting information about track protection requirements, carrying out assigned protection and/or work activities, and responding appropriately to safety incidents and abnormal situations within the limits of personal responsibility.

On successful completion of this course learners will obtain a Queensland Rail enterprise qualification as well as the national units of competency

At the successful completion of this course participants will have the knowledge & understanding of the following:

Entry Requirements

Participants will require:

  • Rail Industry Worker Card
  • Compliant Certificate of Fitness (Category 3 Rail Medical), including Drug & alcohol. This can be booked with us for your convenience.

PPE Requirements:

All participants attending SARC course must wear the appropriate PPE for entering the rail corridor. The minimum PPE requirement for attending a SARC course is:

  • High visibility clothing
  • Safety boots
  • Safety headwear (broad-brimmed hat or safety helmet with a broad brim attachment)

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
  • Understand basic spoken English
  • Communicate basic safety-related information

Medical Requirement

CAT 3 Medical

A Category 3 Medical is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.

In order to obtain your Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW Card) upon the completion of this course, you will also need to undertake a minimum of a Category 3 Rail Medical.
