This program involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake Handsignaller duties on the Victorian V/Line Network in accordance with workplace requirements. This program provides instruction suitable for new entrants to the industry in addition to supplementing the current experience of existing workers.

The following topics are covered within this course:

  • Act as a lookout worker under direction
  • Act as an inner or outer handsignaller on a specific rail network
  • Hand signal rail traffic at a worksite or within a possession

Entry Requirements

Participants completing this course must hold the following AQF competency units:

  • Category 1 Rail Medical
  • TLIF0020 – Safely Access the Rail Corridor
  • CPCWHS1001 โ€“ Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)

Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
  • Understand basic spoken English
  • Communicate basic safety-related information

  • On-Job Logbook (40 Hours)
  • Practical Assessment
  • * Practical Assessment Fee is $150.00

Delivery Method

  • This courses is facilitated via a face to face workshop (2 days) .
  • This course requires participants to complete an on-the-job workbook (40 hours), where the participant is guided by a qualified person. This is to be organised by the participant
  • Performance Assessment

Recertification

_________________________

Recertification is required every two (2) years from the date of assessment.
Recertification takes four (4) hours and can be scheduled as required.

Medical Requirement

Category 3 Rail Medical (CAT 3)

A Category 3 Rail Medical, often referred to as a CAT 3 Medical, is an assessment designed to help non-safety critical workers make sure their health and fitness does not impact the rail network. The CAT 3 Medical tests your ability to operate safely in the rail corridor so you can hear instructions, move to a safe place, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.
