Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure – Core Units Perth (WA)

The Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure – Core Units course is a selection of units from the TLI27121 qualification and is designed for persons engaged in aspects of rail infrastructure work undertaking routines and procedures while taking some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

This course provides the foundation for workers to operate safely and contribute to track construction and maintenance.

Candidates desirous of undertaking further studies in the technical aspects of track construction and maintenance can go on to complete the qualification TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure receiving credit for the units covered in this course.



This course is a partial completion of TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment certificate issued on successful completion.



The following topics are covered within this course:

  • TLIB0012 Maintain and use hand tools
  • TLID0020 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
  • TLIF0025 Follow work health and safety procedure
  • TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
  • TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure

Entry Requirements


There are no pre-requisites for this course, however to satisfy Rail Network Requirements* the following is required:

  • TLIF0020 Safely Access the Rail Corridor    OR
  • TLIF2080 Safely Access the Rail Corridor (superseded as at 28/01/2021 – Credit Transfer to TLIF0020 Required )

*Rail Network Operators in most States and Territories require workers to hold the above prior to entering rail worksites.

Practical aspects of the Cert II Rail Infrastructure course in our Perth centres require participants to apply appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:

  • Orange hi-vis apparel
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Long pants
  • Steel capped boots
  • Gloves
  • Eye, ear and head protection

Information on PPE requirements will be provided by your local CERT Branch office on request with specific course information.

Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N)


Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. The Cert II Rail Infrastructure course in our Perth centres requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:

  • Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
  • Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
  • Understand basic spoken English
  • Communicate basic safety-related information



  • Theory assessments
  • Practical demonstrations under assessment conditions

CERT also offers various options for delivery.  Your local CERT Branch can provide the local options available.  CERT may also offer delivery at workplace sites where adequate facilities for training and assessment are available.

  • Support from qualified instructors while completing on-line or self-paced learning options is available
