Rail Industry Worker Competence
All contractors seeking to work on the network must possess a Rail Industry Worker Card that includes valid job roles and competencies. CERT is available to help you meet the competency requirements for all UGLRL Safeworking job roles.
Duration and Delivery Method
All UGLRL Safeworking courses (excluding Recertification) include a component of face-to-face facilitated training, on-job practical application and an assessment of competence.
Safeworking Recertifications are comprised of 4-hour face-to-face assessment with a practical observation and a review of supplementary evidence.Â

Language Literacy and Numeracy Requirements:
Participants undergo an assessment prior to commencement of training which assists us to identify any learning support which may be required. This course requires participants to have language, literacy and numeracy skill levels to be able to:
- Read and understand work safety signs and symbols
- Read and understand workplace policies, procedures and information
- Understand basic spoken English
- Communicate basic safety-related information
How Long is the face-to-face training component?
Each UGLRL Safeworking course includes the following number of face-to-face training days:
1-Day: UGLRL Protection Officer Level 3 & 4
2-Days: UGLRL Protection Officer Level 1 & 2, UGLRL Safeworking Level 1& 2
3-Days: UGLRL Handsignaller Level 1 & 2
5-Days: UGLRL Track Vehicle Operator
Assessment Cost:
Please note that the assessments for UGLRL training courses are charged separately. Payment is required prior to undertaking your assessment and any repeat assessments will be an additional charge.
